Thanks for all your patience while we established our blogs as a way of communication with parents. Over the last couple of weeks the children have:
In writing.....
In writing.....
- Learned the features of an informational text
- Researched to find information both in books and on websites
- Wrote a lead to hook their reader
- Grouped information for their forces books and created headings
- Planned their writing to include diagrams, experiments, labels & captions
- Began writing their first draft
- Conferenced and edited with a teacher
- Working on their final draft
In Maths....
- Have begun the process of problem solving by asking questions to direct thinking
- Used a Newton meter to measure the vertical and horizontal pull force of an object
- Learned strategies to improve their written and mental maths around two and three digit addition problems
- Continued work on place value up to a thousand
- Learned how to play "Spuds" - you should ask them about this.
In UOI.....
In Social/Emotional Development.....
- Conducted a parachute experiment
- Reflected and analyzed results from the experiment
- Learned about Newton's 3 Laws of Motion
- Discussed and recorded ideas about the Laws of Motion and a soccer ball
- Began measuring force with a Newton Meter
- Will conduct a balloon rocket experiment this week to further think about the Laws of Motion
In Social/Emotional Development.....
- Continue to use problem solving techniques as situations occur throughout the day
- Studied about the left and right side of the brain and the functions of each
- Thought about personal situations where emotions were high, brainstormed strategies to cope with these emotions and problem solve
- Will continue to discuss brain function and how students can regulate strong emotions and tough social situations.
